News Release
Texas Access to Justice Foundation

“As we pause on Memorial Day to remember those service men and women
who died serving our country, I take this opportunity to share information
about the legal aid programs in Texas that serve our military veterans and
their families. At a time when
many veterans are returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,
several programs funded by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation offer free
legal services that help Texas veterans with many critical civil legal
services. These services assist
in addressing legal issues related to marital problems, difficulties in
getting medical or disability benefits, wrongful foreclosures, and other
situations that may arise due to a veteran’s absence during military
service. The brave men and women who have served our country
deserve our help in protecting their rights, while they have sacrificed so
very much to protect our freedoms.
All too often, veterans also face financial hardships when returning
home that make access to our justice system even more difficult for their
families. Through the tremendous fundraising efforts of the Texas
Access to Justice Commission, more than $1 million has been raised in the
past three years for veterans’ legal services.
Listed below are several local programs funded by the Texas Access to
Justice Foundation designed to help veterans with their legal needs.
We are so very grateful to those who have served our
country and thank those lawyers throughout the state that are helping serve
those who have served.” Local Legal Aid Programs for Veterans Community

Texas in 1984, is the leading state-based funding source for the provision
of civil legal aid in Texas. The organization is committed to the vision
that all Texans will have equal access to justice, regardless of their
income. The Foundation administers a variety of funding sources, which are
earmarked to assist nonprofit organizations in providing legal aid to
approximately 100,000 Texans each year.
