Texas Access to Justice Foundation adds Dr. Benjamin Alexander to board of directors

(AUSTIN, TX) – The Texas Access to Justice Foundation, the largest state-based funding source for civil legal aid, announces the addition of Dr. Benjamin Alexander of Lubbock, as a public member of its board of directors. The Supreme Court of Texas appointed Alexander to a three-year term beginning October 2024 – August 2027.

Alexander is the Executive Director of the South Plains College (SPC) Lubbock Career and Technical Center and Workforce Development. He is responsible for all workforce development programs of South Plains College and serves as the highest-ranking administrator and supervisor of all non-faculty positions at SPC Lubbock Center. A Lubbock native, he is active in the community and recently served on the Northern District of Texas Magistrate Judge Screening committee, is involved with Goodwill Industries of Northwest Texas, and is a board member of Lubbock Area United Way. He also serves as pastor of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Levelland.

“Our public board members bring vital and unique perspectives as we strive to increase access to justice for all,” Deborah Hankinson, chair of the board of directors for the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, said. “With his experience in workforce development and education, we look forward to the contributions Dr. Alexander will make on our board as we continue our work to provide civil legal assistance for disadvantaged Texans.”

Alexander graduated with degrees from Texas Tech University including a B.S. in General Studies and Masters of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a concentration in Educational Counseling and Entrepreneurial Business Concepts. In May 2022, he received a Doctoral Degree in Business Management from Wayland Baptist University. The Foundation’s board includes 13 attorneys and public members—seven are appointed by the Supreme Court of Texas and six by the State Bar of Texas.

The Texas Access to Justice Foundation, created by the Supreme Court of Texas in 1984, is the largest state-based funding source for the provision of civil legal aid in Texas. The organization is committed to the vision that all Texans will have equal access to justice, regardless of their income. The Foundation administers a variety of funding sources, which are earmarked to assist nonprofit organizations in providing legal aid to more than 100,000 Texas families each year.
